Are we responsible for miracles?

I was struggling to adjust my luggage below my seat in the train, when she offered me to use the space under her seat. First impression, I found her to be a very happy and satisfied soul. The typical extra friendly caring person.

I was straining myself to listen to what she was telling Abhinav. She observed that, stopped her conversation and asked to me to occupy the empty seat. She was narrating about her experience and why she started going for seva every year in that ashram.

She was suffering from cancer and in the advanced stage.Food doesnt have any taste, still she used to hungry and eating a lot. The radiation and streroids had made her bloat into a huge being. The pain was unbearable. No one except her would undergo it nor anyone can imagine the suffering. I felt more than pain, it was the fact that her life is not normal anymore. It is difficult to face reality and move ahead. You are stuck with in these tears forever.

One day her mother asked her to come to the temple. "Ranjani, you sing so well. Come sing in the bhajans for a change. You would feel better. You would forget your agony for a while and may be the god will show you some way." Not wanting to hurt her mother by not accompanying her, she forced herself to go to the temple.

As the bhajans were over they were waiting for the padanamaskaram, she didnt know how to pray her way out of the pain. She was still crying. Suddenly she looks up and the guruji is literally staring at her. She doesnt know how to react. She was surprised that such a famous guruji is looking at her and not at anyone else in the huge crowd. For the first time in many years she was not experiencing the pain. She was overwhelmed, guruji is taking away her pain. She started praying more deeply. As a gratitude she wanted to turn back at guruji and say thanks in her mind. To her surprise he is still looking at her. Now she was convinced that she is cured.

She goes back home and throws away all her medicines. Her mother regretted taking her out. She was uncontrollable. The medicines were so costly and she was throwing them into dustbin. She just didnt care about what others are telling. She felt normal. She started her music classes. Learnt bhajans with the help of audio cassettes. She started keeping herself busy and started going to work. She took care of her father who had lost his job bcoz of his paralytic attack.
As an acknowledgement she decided to contribute in terms of seva every year.

I may not believe in the Guruji whom she beleives to have cured her. For me she herself was responsible for what she is today. But what i liked best is the attitude she had towards life and the belief she had in life. We need to trust in something and that something may is God. She makes sure she leaves behind a mark in everyone's life whom she interacts, teaching us the higher meaning of life.

Everyone has problems. Some small some big. Some we are able to face so its small but some teach us how to face them. But at the end of the day admist of all these how has your journey of life fared. Thats all matters.

I wouldnt call it a miracle, i would say an effort, i wouldnt credit Guruji, but a quality or say ability in us to change things or say accept these changes.... Its called attitude... and i must say its an example of an optimist's attitude... A fitting example to your blog title and like many of us, keep the experience sharing going.... People learn from it.... Thank Ranjani for attitude but thanks to you Archie for making some time to narrate this incident...
