Working in IT, I never felt globalization has any ill effects. It has given our country employeement. We have more spending power. Our country has been recognised in the whole world for technological contribution. Better products are available. We are no different than our client counterpart. BUT...Has Globalisation taken away the spirit of Indianism. Rather the Nationalistic feeling for one's own country. The greatest Identity one can have.
This was so till i watched this Video again. We have lost something great. Even though it is intangible, we have lost the spirit of Ourself. When was the last time we sang National Anthem? When was the last time we even stood up in perfect attention postion for the same. Last i remember the words "National Anthem" was used when NRN was accused of not respecting our nation.
I still rememeber when Prathiba Patil gave her first presedential speech at about 2 pm, we were having our lunch. The volume was low. When i realised it was our National Anthem being played. I didnt see anyone from the tables near the TV standing up. Finally one brave chap stood up... to face the giggles of his friends. "Its ok no one is bothered" Is it so???

yeah so true. nowadays we have lost the indian spirit in ourselves, we have kind of lost our heritage somewhere.we have infact lost ourselves in this tsunami of globalization !

its not the roots but the breath of each of us.

not really.. noting proves the guy who stood up for the natioal anthem was super patriotic. maybe he was waitig for his H1B to get processed. the true patriots are the honest tax payers according to me. atleast they are not running away from duties
I do not believe patriotism is reflected in not standing up to the national anthem. Nor does it mean we have to do something heroic...
Patriotism to me is about making choices in my day to day life which are not always only beneficial for me but for the people around me as well...
Coz afterall as our constitution says, this country is "by the people, for the people and of the people"
not too sure if standing up for the anthem is a sure shot sign of patriotism... if a person does not profess his/her love for someone publicly, does it mean that they do not love the person they love? or am i looking at it the wrong way?
Why blame globalization for taking away the spirit of Indianism. Yeah, globalization may have other ill effects and all. But its not the main reason.
As you said singing National Anthem is a sign of patriot. But how many of us know the meaning of National Anthem??? Tell me!! God, I know a dozen guys who doesnt even know in which language it is written and they claim to be the next Bhagat Singh.
NRN issue made a lot of noice. But why was that? Just a sec before he was lifted to the top of world for getting all the huge revenue from US of A and creating jobs here. And then the same guy is humiliated next for backing the musical version of National Anthem. For all i know he wouldnt have even known that there was a musical version until that function.
One must not think that Patriotism means one has to follow the written protocol of the Parliament. Respect your nation in your way. Have the responsibility to do what you must for your country.
Appreciate your writing on this topic. Sorry for my controversial view on your take. I respect India for whats it is. But we must understand that for loving one country we need not hate another country. Globalization will happen. But the country that best adapts along with will stand to be the gainer.

I am not sure whether I agree with patriotism at all if its definition is "my country - right or wrong".
I have no intention to slur those brave soldiers who have been consumed in the war to defend their country's borders.
But when one places oneself above one's country and looks at humanity as a whole, I think one is a more evolved human being.
Sure it is good to be proud of your country - after all it gave you roots - but it is also good to be critical of aspects that need improvement.
And most important of them all, not just be armchair critics but actually DO something to improve the country.
That, to me, is true patriotism.
And yes, standing up when the national anthem is playing is also a sign of patriotism, if it is done with inner respect for your country. I applaud the guy who stood up, even if it meant others might ridicule him.

I am of the view that changes which are required is to brought should be within the borders.. and it need not be leaked out.. Then we are degrading ourselves..
