Animal Instincts

There were two related incidents which made me write this post or rather even come to the conclusion...

Number1. Watched Blood Diamond, more than a movie being fictional i felt the intensely power of media for the first time. I actually could relate to any blooshed, war or even what is now happening in Srilanka. As one of the chain mail goes our newspapers and TV news channels carry so much of negative information - always bloodsheds, domestic violence, injustice to women and children.. somehow we get used to it and stop feeling bad to those things. Or i guess we realise we cant do much and give up on the issues.

Number2: Was going through an acquaintance's orkut profile and his communities, came across this community called as "Indian Mythology" http://www.orkut.com/Main#Community.aspx?cmm=277603 with catchy description. So started going through the discussions. Very impressed with people of our generation knowing so much about these fact ( well i get impressed with anyone good at facts as I am bad at facts. Math is still at spot #1 :-D . How much ever i try, well the dedication toward trying is pretty less, i dont seem to get them ) Initial enthusiasm faded as i read this topic "who is the strongest and the most powerful GOD?" http://www.orkut.com/Main#CommMsgs.aspx?cmm=277603&tid=5258306534889123682 . Whole 100 odd posts were crap. Had it been a GD, it would have been worse than a fish market.

This is when i realised humans were not successful enough to wipe out their animal instincts even after being civilized for more than 5000 years. When was the last time we hunted for food??? nowadays we really dont get to hunt, so we want other means to unleash that power, THE POWER TO OVERPOWER someone else. We just want to fight, reasons are not important. For a person who believes hindu muslim religious differences and communal riots are waste of time and energy, fighting about whether shiva or vishnu is stronger and they bring facts and vedic verses to prove it. Heights of joblessness!!!

I guess more than greed for money or power, it is about something deep inside us which we need to realise. We are homo sapiens and we dont have much hair left on our bodies to behave like monkeys any more. Not just one country, not just one civilization, every part of this world we have history to prove this... right from downfall of civilizations to european expeditions to oil wars to palestine. To top it all we make fictional movies where aliens also come to fight us or fight each others. I cant even hope that even in other galaxies we have a different mentality :) - Hope they dont make movies where we make such movies bcoz that proves that every life giving element has a aspect to urge them to take the very element which gave them life.

brilliant post as compared to the previous post :P
ur right in saying Ppl want to overpower others.. it gives them good feeling abt themselves and be proud of that fact.

we indians have got used to the terrorism, communal riots, street fights so much that we have become immune to this fact and it has entered into our genes!!

time to wake up and fight.. not with neothers but with ourselves..!

your post brings two things to mind: 1 the quote "The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated" 2. the other i heard a taliban milotant saying all they want is sharia law to be enforced all across the world

"We don't have enough hair left to act like monkeys anymore"
hahaha! toooo good :)
And best part- its very much alligned to my own thoughts- y benchmark yourself against others and try to better them? Benchmark against your own self.. I think its the toughest benchmark to set!
